Ambystoma mexicanum. Also known as “mole salamanders”, these freshwater aquatic salamanders retain their larval characteristics (gills and existence in an aquatic habitat) even into adulthood, making them ideal subjects for embryological and developmental studies. Their color will vary from albino to brown. Care instructions are included. Average size: 1–4″; but they may grow up to 12″.

- Tuesday, April 07, 2009 Highly Recomended Reviewed By: Jeffrey (St. Louis, Missouri) First off I received excellent customer service from everyone at Ward's. Secondly I purchased a wild one since the albino's were out of stock. Later I ordered an albino. They both came very carefully packed and even with a care cd rom! It is very timely and interesting that these salamanders can grow back entire functioning legs and even some organs. Many labs are currently doing research on them along with the new stem cell research now being done in the U.S. Who knows one day maybe these little guys could hold the secret to helping us in the field of human tissue and organ transplant. I am very pleased with mine and they are both doing extremely well.
