Observing two isolated specimens of Nasonia, students note differences in the organisms’ structure and behavior. After the two organisms are introduced into the same environment, the students are asked to determine which organism is the male and which is the female based on the reactions and behavior of the two organisms. Students will then conduct a post-lab analysis, which will direct them through a discussion of how the structural differences provide a functional benefit to each sex.
