WARD’S Animal vs. Plant Lab Activity |
| Observe the Differences in Proteins |
Organisms within a particular kingdom share a closer common ancestor than with those of another kingdom, which can be demonstrated when students use electrophoresis to discover the gene expression of proteins in wheat and salmon, and draw conclusions about the polypeptide fractions as well as whole proteins of both. In addition, a standard separation curve can be generated using the protein marker to identify various unknown proteins. You will receive enough samples and reagents to run up to ten gels, a teacher’s guide, and student copymaster. A vertical PAGE chamber, power supply, 20 μL micropipets, and precast polyacrylamide 6–14% gradient SDS gels, all required, are available separately. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail.
