Safe, nonhuman hemoglobin, included in the activity, gives your students the opportunity to conduct an electrophoresis test that diagnoses sickle cell anemia. Students receive three samples of hemoglobin: normal, sickle cell, and carrier. When they electrophorese the samples, distinctly different banding patterns will appear; it is the students’ task to identify the samples based on the data they obtain. The kit contains enough samples and reagents to run up to ten gels, a teacher’s guide, and student copymaster. A vertical PAGE chamber, power supply, 20 μL micropipets, and precast polyacrylamide 10–20% gradient SDS gels, all required, are available separately. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail.
