Provide your students with a thorough overview of genetic engineering research without complex exercises to demonstrate the principles, even though the techniques are much the same that are used in research laboratories. Students will treat bacterial cells, causing uptake of a new plasmid, and then verify that the cells have incorporated the plasmid by growing the E.coli on antibiotic-containing agar plates.
