Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG), produced during pregnancy, is the hormone detected by the ELISA method in standard lab testing, as well as home pregnancy tests. The lab activity kit includes simulated urine, allowing students to conduct the ELISA test without handling actual body fluids, eliminating any health risks. The lab activity can be completed in two 1-hour lab sessions. For a safe but realistic experience, the activities utilize real antigens and antibodies isolated from non-human sources; students don’t handle any human body fluids. Each lab activity comes with enough materials for six setups, a teacher’s guide, and student copymaster.
