Plant tissue culture, a means of asexually cloning plants, is being used commercially to propagate many horticultural and ornamental plants. The technique consists of culturing plant sections on an artificial medium, producing hundreds or even thousands of genetically identical plants. An entire, new organism produced from a single cell, can be re-created in our lab activity. Using a carrot, students isolate aseptic explant material, initiate an aseptic callus, and observe the callus as it develops into tissues, organs, and plants. The demonstration size comes with enough materials to perform two demonstrations; the class size comes with enough materials for 15 setups, as well as teacher’s guide and student copymaster. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail.
