Introduction to Oxidation-Reduction Lab Activity

Explore the Tendencies of Elements to Lose or Gain Electrons
Individualized lab work allows students to determine the relative tendency of metal to lose electrons and the relative tendency of halogens to gain electrons in this introduction to redox reactions. Students will place pieces of zinc, lead, and copper in solutions of metallic ions to test their relative reducing ability. They will also compare and determine the relative oxidizing strength of chlorine, bromine, and iodine. The kit includes enough materials for 50 students, a teacher’s manual, and student worksheets.
