Or they can study the background information, illustrations, photographs, and animations on smallpox, Ebola, Anthrax, bubonic plague, botulism, tuleremia, and the work of both Koch and Pasteur. After students have learned some of the history surrounding biological agents and their uses, they can perform one of two interactive simulations to determine the susceptibility of Anthrax, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtillis, and B. cereus to various antiseptics, antibiotics, and natural agents by measuring the kill zone around test discs that have been placed on a Petri dish lawn. In addition, flash animations reinforce the importance of the structure and function of viruses and bacteria. The software also contains video clips that demonstrate how to perform a hands-on lab for control of bacteria.
