Convert Heat Energy into Sound
|
Hold the closed end of either of these glass tubes over a burner flame and it will emit a tone heard throughout your lab. Each of the two singing tubes is closed at one end but open at the other. One emits a fixed tone, but you can vary the tone of the other by telescoping its two sections. When a temperature differential is created along the tube, the contained air column vibrates with a tone whose wavelength is four times the tube length. The tubes come with instructions. Size: 9″L.
