This economical apparatus consists of an aluminum alloy cylinder, which features a slanted hole drilled in the top to hold thermometers. Simply place your sample on the top of the cylinder as it heats over a bunsen burner. The thermometer allows you to record from a safe distance, the temperature at which the substance melts.
