This multifaceted activity illustrates enzymic activity of catalase when added to a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide. Pressure will increase as oxygen is produced during the catalysis. Students will use a PASPORT absolute pressure sensor to evaluate enzymic activity and examine the effect of pH on the activity of catalase. This lab, which can be completed in one 50-minute session, includes materials for eight setups, teacher’s guide, and student copymasters. The lab requires one absolute pressure sensor and one USB Link or Xplorer Datalogger interface per setup, all available separately. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials.
