Necessary Instruction for Collecting Entomological Evidence |
The validity and usefulness of entomological evidence relies upon proper standards and practices, which begin at the time of collection. Produced by board certified Forensic Entomologists to promote standard practices when collecting and handling insect evidence, this program ensures appropriate information and insect evidence is collected during death investigations. Common insects encountered are addressed in detail, as well as where to look for them during various stages of their development and human decomposition. Standard practices for how to collect adult and immature insects from human remains are demonstrated, and proper techniques for preserving this evidence is also provided. Additional instruction includes temperature collection, appropriate field documentation, rearing techniques, and shipping protocols. Real-life examples are shown of decomposing bodies with insect evidence. Duration: 22 minutes. Note: Due to the graphic nature of its contents, this program is intended for mature audiences only.
